Gratitude and thanks to all who pulled together a wonderful Parish Feast Day celebration! The children’s choir is growing stronger and stronger that led our prayer. Many students processed in with roses to present to the image of St. Theresa and relic reminding us of St. Theresa’s promise to pray for us and shower roses upon us from heaven.
After the Mass, lunch was ready. Homage and gratitude to Peter Nuti who arrived to guide with his leg in a cast. Chris Bruni and others took over the task of grilling, and all were more than satisfied. Once again, the newly re-constituted Men’s Club provided beverages for all on a hot day and the treats from the St. Vincent de Paul bake sale flew off the tables benefitting the good work done in our name.
It is always great seeing the children have so much fun with the games set up and run by a good number of adults. Gift tickets were eagerly cashed in for prizes to show off and enjoy. A live band provided great music throughout the afternoon and were enjoyed by all.
We celebrate our patronal saint by celebrating ourselves as a parish. St. Theresa exemplified the ‘small ways’ we can get to heaven. Many, many exemplified this path by participation and presence to one another for a few hours. Once again, thanks to all for making this a success. Thanks to veterans who know the way and all the newer members who stepped up to continue this time in our parish life. May St. Theresa, bless all who made it a success and may she intercede for our whole parish to help us continue the journey to meet her one day in paradise!
By now most of us have received the November election ballots. I hope all who are registered will vote. As has been happening on most elections, our Event Center will be utilized by the election officials as a voting place.
Glancing at the pre-election pamphlet, there are once again many issues and propositions that we will be voting on. The California Catholic Conference does not comment on every proposition, but it does on many and I encourage you to take a look at it as you are sorting your way through these matters. You can access this at: cacatholic.org/vote/
Last week I put in a link to Cardinal McElroy’s recent homily on Immigration. He also along with the USCCB.org has some excellent guidance on voting. I encourage you to look and study these resources and then make up your mind and VOTE!
As the days seem to get shorter and we change our clocks on Halloween after midnight, we look to remembering all the saints who pray and inspire us, and we remember our beloved departed souls and pray that their journey is complete in heaven. Once again, all are invited to bring in pictures of their loved ones so that the rest of us looking at their pictures during the month of November can join you in a prayer for them. Our lives are shaped by the inspiration of the saints who we might read about or watch a movie about. (On Tuesday, October 20 at the All Saints Gym the movie Cabrini: An American Saint who never gave up, will be shown.) We have also been guided and shaped by the saints in the midst of our daily lives, especially in our parish. That is why it is good to celebrate us on occasion and often give thanks for those who have now gone before us.
I will be traveling to Southern California this week to celebrate my recently departed ‘adopted Italian Mom’ Della. May all our beloved, rest in God’s mercy and peace!
